1. Participants’ arrival in Japan

In the difficult situation of global infection of COVID-19, we had an online opening ceremony of the training courses in Seismology, Earthquake Engineering, and Tsunami Disaster Mitigation for young researchers and engineers on Oct 2nd. IISEE One year training course has started, and participants began coming to Japan one by one. Please see the Newsletter attached on page 1&2.

2. Face-to-face lecture (December 8) by Prof. Satake at IISEE hall

On December 8th, Professor Kenji Satake, Director of the Earthquake Research Institute, the University of Tokyo, gave a lecture entitled “Tsunami and Earthquakes.” The professor explained the basic concepts of tsunami generation, propagation, tsunami warnings, etc., citing studies of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and other earthquakes in the world. 3. Asian Seismological Commission General Assembly 2021 (On-line, 21-27 AUG. 2021)

5. Lecture on Disaster Management Policies at GRIPS

Since 2005, the IISEE regular-course program has also been recognized as the master course program of the National Gratitude Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) based on the partnership between the BRI and the GRIPS. Please see the Newsletter attached on page 4.

6. Report on the remote IISEE seminar (December 15) by Prof. Tanioka
